GREEN invest - KMD invests in energy efficiency and sustainability
In the last quarter of 2019, we replaced the existing lighting in all of our offices and production facilities with energy-efficient LED technology.
The aim of the investment was to reduce energy costs sustainably, to improve the quality of light and thus the working conditions in the company, while at the same time making a contribution to climate protection.
The retrofitting was carried out without disrupting the ongoing production and administration operations and thus the work of the employees. The installers from Marcel Schönau Elektrohandel- and Service installed 388 LED lights while the old lighting remained in operation. After just 21 working days, our rooms shone in new splendor - with an illuminance of 300 lux and a pleasant light color of 6,500 K, which significantly improves the quality of work.
KMD now saves about 50% of the original cost for lighting. We also do good for the environment by reducing our CO2 consumption by 33,870 kg per year. In this way, KMD will effectively protect the environment in the future and save costs. Employees can also look forward to pleasant, daylight-like lighting at their workplaces.
Funding from the "GREEN invest" program was approved for implementing the energy-saving renovation of the lighting system, resulting in a funding rate of 80%. The project, which is funded by the Free State of Thuringia, was co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE).
