Please come in! Family event and open day at KMD

Last week we opened our doors twice and welcomed interested students, partners, parents and of course children.

Open day for trainees

On Friday, we started with our "open day for trainees". Interested students and parents visited us and informed themselves about our education as natural stone mechanic, draughtsman, warehouse operator and wholesale and export trader. Of course, they were also fascinated by our benefits. In addition to the general benefits, every trainee at KMD has a professional mentor and a training mentor throughout the entire education period. The stories about apprentice projects and the content of our practical training also aroused interest. Our trainee Kira, who is currently in her 3rd year as a draughtswoman, reported on her visits to construction sites. She was able to put theoretical knowledge into practice and consolidate it. For example, our construction managers supported here with many helpful advices while she was making a measurement.

Family event at KMD

On the next day we welcomed our employees and their families to our family day. With typical Thuringian food and drinks, we provided the environment for a relaxed conversation and getting to know colleagues and KMD as an employer. This year, our colleagues and families were able to gain their own experience in the processing of natural stone. In our manufactory, they had the opportunity to create a bevelled edge with a hand grinder by their own hands. Surprisingly good results were achieved due to their own precision. Of course, these stone items were then allowed to be taken home. Our "little ones" also had fun. In addition to a bouncy castle, they could be creative by painting stones and sculpting soapstone. Beautiful necklace pendants, small animals and imaginative patterns were created. During the day we offered several tours through the company where all interested guests could get an impression of our processes, projects and the production of the impressive elements made out of natural stone.

Having a look into the production of unique products

Already in the incoming goods department, our raw slabs of natural stone impressed with their great variety of stone types, colours and veining, which we purchase exclusively for specific projects. The impression and the haptic experience of the unique natural stones fascinated many visitors. Also the view into our modern machinery and into our manufactory inspired. It impressed many guests to see with which precision the individual wall claddings, vanities, pool surrounds, natural stone furniture etc. are created. The tour was completed with a visit to the administrative offices. Our visitors were interested in the workplaces of the construction engineers and project managers. Exhibited samples gave an idea of the extensive projects that are realised in the various rooms of yachts, residences and hotels.

We would like to thank all colleagues and participants for their support during both days.
